A Focus on People

The genesis of Mindshift Consulting was the realization that many organizations perform well below their potential, for a variety of reasons. This fact lies at the heart of our purpose: to develop cultures of innovation and learning that perform at their highest potential. Organizations with such cultures have a clear purpose and strategy, and a focus on people.

Based on our work with many companies, we have learned that performance tends to relate to motivation and process; that there is a human side of management; and that change occurs once a problem is understood in a new way.

You can tell a lot about a company simply by walking down the halls and observing people. Is the energy good? Do you notice people being expressive as they work together? If the answers are yes, then you are witnessing a culture people enjoy being a part of, a place where people feel free to develop as both a person and a member of the organization, and where they want to contribute.

Some organizations have this, while others are places that people simply tolerate as a way to make ends meet. It's easy to guess which is more competitive. When people thrive, cultures flourish and organizations tend to prosper; it's inevitable. We believe that each makes the other possible and that all need to be in balance.

A Turn in the Road

Why do so many organizations struggle to keep talented employees, to create vibrant cultures or to develop critical relationships? One reason is a failure to understand the human side of management. Another is that the values of an organization are not aligned with management behavior and strategic intent. For a variety of reasons, more often than not, organizations operate below their potential.

Many leaders have a clear vision of where they want to be and how to get there, but define themselves based on quarterly performance, rather than their core purpose and their culture. That works fine when things are good. But such disconnects can also influence performance in the wrong direction. Aligning the two often requires a virage, a turn in the road.
